I can tell you I am 100% it's target audience.

I'd probably call that the most influential movie of any in my life. It came out maybe a year after I started taking martial arts as a teen, and the lessons portrayed in that movie mirrored what I learned from Sifu (that's the Chinese version of Sensei). The way the movie portrayed them was incredibly meaningful.

That movie meant a lot to me, and seeing those characters revisited with some depth instead of as the 2-dimensional characters we saw back then is great fun. We get to see Johnny desperately trying to be a good person, but struggling. We also see Daniel desperately trying to be a bad person, but struggling as well. Johnny wants to atone for mistakes, and Daniel has grown into a pretty self-absorbed adult. But both had things ingrained in them from karate (bad for Johnny, good for Daniel) that are hard to shake.

I haven't finished S4 yet, but so far it's shown us them trying to work together to see what, if anything, they can learn from the other. Sometimes aggression (i.e. Cobra Kai), when deliberate and controlled, is a good thing. Sometimes peace, balance, and defense (i.e. Miyagi-do) is too passive.
