At least so far, cypto fails every possible test of what a "currency" is

for now, it is a speculative commodity, not a currency.

It has some genuinely interesting and revolutionary features for the digital age of financial transactions. So it does have some kind of inherent value. But for now, it has a whole lot more in common with a junk bond or penny stock than a currency.
