Was it really 22 years ago when the Hokies were one quarter away from winning a national championship? We rode an all world (and underrated high school QB) along with a tremendous defense to less than 15 minutes from a title.

Fast forward 22 years and the differences are stark when comparing Georgia and Alabama to the current VT team. It is devastating to see how the last coaching staff destroyed the fabric, structure, and methodology that made VT football great. The result is a smoldering pile of undersized and under developed players that would have lost by 50 or more to either team last night. Right now, the chasm between the elite teams and the Tech program is incredibly alarming, especially when the program was in the top 5 during our early years in the ACC.

It is my hope that CBP brings a culture change to the program that is clearly needed. I don't see any 5-star players walking through the door anytime soon, so we will need to rekindle the methodology from the 90s and 2000s where we won the recruiting battles for the top players in the state and we develop them into top flight players that can compete with the freaks of nature that Georgia, Alabama and others run out onto the field.

I like the coaching hires to this point. I hope they instill an identity and culture that can drive success in the ACC as the Coastal and the ACC is there for the taking. It will take some time and patience as the talent gap is so formidable that will require a lot of time to close.
