Just trying to catch up on this conversation......not sure if I will answer

what you are looking for, but seems like the gist is about decisions regarding budgets and donated funds?? Or is that to simplistic of an interpretation? Typically a sport will be given a budget to work with for the year. That would include everything they deal with from travel to meals to their scholarship allotment/breakdown. Then a coach may have a wish list, and have money raised outside of said budget to accommodate a whish list of things. Softball has had that opening banquet prior to the season before that would give them some extra money...They have the Dug out Club that I am not sure they promote well (maybe that will improve). All of that type of money raised is typically prioritized by the coach and will be spent for very specific things. Same for the Poppin It Challenge that was done.

I did see the post talking about 5 year old socks. Frankly, that surprises me, and the first I have heard of anything like that within any sport at VT. They do typically get a decent "gear" package, but not sure on the amount for specifics of things like socks. I know the shoes normally are included in the Nike supply, and same with whoever the bat equipment supplier is. I wouldn't say they get unlimited bats/shoes, but typically get new stuff each year. They have even changed bat providers a few times in the last few years, so know they received new stuff with that.

If a donor says, I am giving $1,000 for new socks, that is how that money will be spent, and is not used as a "rob Peter to pay Paul" scenario. So they won't reallocate that $1,000 to another area to offset that gift. Also, keep in mind there is a Sport Administrator (an Associate AD) that typically goes over all of this with the Head Coach and then advocates on behalf of that sport to Whit. So, things like needs should really run through that person (more so than the coach) to Whit. I will also say, softball has a new director of operations. And he has a tremendous background in operations. He was the operations for both of the basketball programs here, as well as the men's basketball program at South Carolina. He is a different level Dir. of Ops person (meaning he has a lot of career experience in this stuff).......Let me know if I didn't answer anything you were looking for.....
