Wahoo here coming in peace to make two points

- Your line about guys going to the rim trying to avoid contact sounds exactly like my UVA group chat last night.
- Semi-related: Normally we're saying the same things - Bennett's system doesn't set us up to draw fouls, our players are soft at the rim (and yes, we will occasionally complain about the refs not calling fouls on the opposition). We're tied for 12th in the ACC in free throws per game at 15.1. VT is last at 12.7. (Weirdly, Pitt, the lowest scoring team in the league, takes the most free throws per game - 23.8. They just make them at the lowest clip in the league.) Last night was an anomaly in that Caffaro, our most bull-in-a-china-shop player, was also our most effective offensive player last night, and he was getting more minutes and getting the ball a lot. So it was unusual for us to shoot that many more free throws than the opposition, but there was a pretty direct reason for our half of that ratio.

EDIT: I said rebounds when I meant fouls, although to be fair, we're usually getting killed on the boards, too.
