Harris Teeter was founded by two entrepreneurs, William Thomas Harris and Willis L. Teeter, who started their separate businesses during the Great Depression in Charlotte, North Carolina. William T. Harris opened the first full-service drugstore called Harris Drugs and Willis L. Teeter opened Teeters Food Mart. Later on they merged their two ventures.
