I met Coach Mike Smith at a VHSCA


softball game that my daughter played in in 2018. The game was in Hampton, and Mike Smith was there because of the VHSCA. I knew the name and how successful Hampton had been, but I did not know him or recognize him. Somehow I ended up talking to him and talked to him for a long time. He did not waste any time telling me his coaching accomplishments and I got the sense that he liked him some Mike Smith. But he was very nice to me and my wife, especially after he found out we were from far SWVA like he is, and I knew his brother and his brother’s family. I asked him about Tyrod (one of my favorite Hokies). I got the sense that he did not like VT, but he bragged about Tyrod and what a great guy he is. It was a good experience.
