This will be an interesting season
I'm not sure what to expect from this years team. As much as I'd like it to be different, I agree VT will most likely end up in the bottom two of the ACC. With a win total in the 6-8 range for the season.
Having Kayla Frank back is great. I think Coach Skiera will bring a new attitude to the team and can build around Kayla. I expect VT will be a team that leaves it all on the field and hustles, but I'm not sure they have the athletes to compete with the mid and upper-tier ACC schools. Give Coach Skiera a few years and the team should settle into the middle of the pack in the ACC. It would not surprise me to see VT and UVA flip in the standings going forward.
My daughter played with one of the 2021 VT recruits. Solid player who never quits. I'm not too familiar with the 2022 class, but my daughter played against many of the girls in Coach Skiera's 2023 class. Many play for Top 20 club teams in that class, which is a good sign. At that level the speed of the game and stick skills of the players is much different than club teams outside the Top 20. These players have been battle tested against the best players in their class and every player on the field can handle the rock.
Jacksonville will be a great test out of the gate. That team likes to transition and their coaches love players with big shots. They recruited my daughter hard for just this reason. Coach Bedford runs a good offense. I'm looking forward to watching that game. It will give us VT fans an idea of how the season will go. I will watch as many games as I can and will be rooting the Hokies on.
