He most definitely was not "totally incompetent". He had his flaws for

sure but I think he understood football and offense in particular pretty well. Calling him "totally incompetent" makes you look just as bad as the people you're criticizing. But to speak to my point, both guys won the ACC COY early on thanks to better than expected seasons. That led to higher expectations which means more criticism when things start going poorly.
