stated (paraphrasing) he was using the super league to get the pga tour to do some things - presumably increased $$ for players - he was lobbying, leveraging and caught not being sincere with his intentions with the saudis or greg norman.

Hes apologized.

Dont know why he decided this was the way to go. If he was attempting a nicklaus like move jack made in the mid 1960s to push the tour to change its mgmt structure and payouts, he failed.
