I see a report that the AN-225 was destroyed near Kiev

Was apparently undergoing maintenance in a hanger that was targeted.

Largest airplane in the world. I saw it when it was fairly new, at the 1989 Paris Air Show. It flew in to Le Bourget with the Soviet space shuttle on top and was the star of the event. Huge.

I got to fly on C-5 from Dayton to Oshkosh later that summer. I was on the air show circuit tending the mock-up of the X-30 National AeroSpace Plane a bunch of us engineering students built for NASA.
