If defense is to be the primary determinant of playing time...

then our starting PG would rarely get off the bench.

Last night, we had 5 starters who were clearly in complete shell shock mode, afraid to take shots, afraid to be the initiator on offense, yet were never subbed out. And those same 5 were getting carved up at the other end of the court by a mediocre Clemson offense, to the tune of being on the wrong side of a 14-2 run. They were failing at BOTH ends of the court.

I will take an occasional missed defensive assignment from Maddox if it means more PT for him, and better offensive production for the team. There have been way, way too many games where he (and Pedulla) are gathering splinters during crunch time, while the starters go full turtle. We need more aggressiveness on offense when the game is on the line. Instead we coach (and play) like we are terrified of making a mistake, and praying for the clock to run out while we are clinging to a lead. That ain't getting it done in March.

  Agree with this 34 -- he gets beat a lot on defense -- 133887Hokie 03/10/2022 10:45AM
