It depends on the mountain. That stretch of I 77? No. Mt. Washington
road in New Hampshire? Yes.
On I 77, yes it is high and steep, but it's interstate, and you'd have to screw up pretty big to go crashing off the road, through the guardrails and off a cliff.
But Mt. Washington (and maybe Pilot; I never drove that one) is a twisty turny road BARELY big enough for 2 cars to pass side by side (and now most are driving giant f'ing SUVs instead) where there aren't guardrails and it takes an average mistake for you to tumble off the side of the road. I did not like that drive up at all. Coming down was much better because you're on the inside of the cliff.
