Pry acts more like a P5 coach (Big 10 PSU), whereas CJF acted more like an FBS coach.
Pry knows what "PR" means; CJF never, ever learned, and failed miserably at PR.
Pry appears to be a much more natural fit at VT, and in Blacksburg, and in Virginia; although CJF did a few nice things early on for Beamer and Bud, in particular #25, so CJF gets some credit here as it relates to transition from CFB, but CJF was just not able to sustain his early momentum with fans.
Pry knows that it is critical and that it is actually a more sustainable approach for VT to improve our focus on in-state recruiting, and in fact Pry understands how to recruit Virginia (evidenced by how successful he was recruiting VA from PSU); CJF never learned, and IMO CJF failed dramatically at this.
Pry will focus on tough D (which is what VT football should be known for); whereas CJF was an offensive finesse kind of guy.

how this plays out on the field, I think CJF had much better team when he took over than what Pry got, so while CJF had initial success that then spiraled downward, I would anticipate Pry having less success early on but then Pry slowly builds VT back up to an ACC contender after several years
