- Tom Brands was in contact with the Iowa AD more than a year prior to taking the job.

- Iowa fans had been discussing their displeasure with their current wrestling coach, and discussing a replacement prior to Tom Brand's meetings with Iowa's AD.

- Brands signs a class of very talented wrestlers from the Midwest, and proceeds to redshirt all of them saving them for the next wrestling year.

- Brands assistants start recruit wrestlers for Iowa while still working for VT. (They knew where they were going to be working the next year)

- Brands resigns from VT, and takes the Iowa job.

- Brands encourages the four redshirted wrestlers to transfer to Iowa, and request full & immediate releases. Jim Weaver offers the wrestlers a generous option that will keep the VT program from collapsing. He said that if they wrestle one year for VT, he would grant a full release the following year. That would allow VT the chance to recruit replacements.

- Iowa fans start a PR campaign to smear VT wrestling as unfair not releasing the Iowa wrestlers that VT had educated for a year. Wouldn't be surprised if Brands had organized it.

Big donors reported that Jim Weaver knew exactly what Brands had done, specifically verbally accepting the Iowa job over a year prior, and conspiring to keep four years of eligibility for that recruiting class...for Iowa.
