Actually goes back a long time/ but can't live with hate

UNC and VT played in the southern conference, however, until recently VT never played them. Last time as 1946 and VT tied them with their star cho cho justice from portsmouth. UNC was highly ranked. appeared UNC was so upset about the loss, they wanted nothing to do with the bunch in blacksburg. When the ACC was formed, VT (and WVU) were the outsiders left behind.

VT tried to get into the ACC in 1978, but was rejected by UNC (when the conference was 8) then a week later UNC sponsored GT as true engineering school for the conference. at the time UNC was great in football under bill dooley; the team at UNC was mostly made up of Virginia players mostly from Hampton roads. Famous Amos Lawrence etc. So VT with lousy teams with sharpe couldn't compete. VT after the ACC fiasco when nuclear and hired Dooley away from UNC. They were so upset. I remember going to the old North South Doubleheader in Charlotte and the VT and UNC fans were sitting beside each other and it was tenser than any VT WV match; VT started to win; with Dooley with Hampton roads players; then a losing streak, and then beamer started to win, UNC went hard after him, to frankly not only get a good coach, but destroy any capability of a power in Blacksburg and they can return to dominance in Virginia. That didn't happen. Then under the ACC, they tried to destroy the ACC by trying to sneak in cuse, bc and miami, didn't work. Now VT is in and Carolina has to deal with it. Folks hold grudges, I see it as hard sports business, they saw VT as a actual threat. Not State, Not Duke, Not UVA but VT.

The best way with UNC is always beat them, dominate them.
