What people forget is that UConn WBB was created from nothing...
There is no reason that other schools couldn't do the same. When Geno got to UConn, the team had never experienced success. Tennesse, ODU, LA Tech and Carolina teams dominated WBB. Geno and Chris Daley built the UConn program from nothing at a time when they didn't have high school all-americans knocking on their door. They recruited who they could. Rebecca Lobo was a local, but her parents wanted her to go to Stanford. Jen Rizzoti was not recruited by the top schools.
My son, who now is in college coaching, used to watch the UConn women practice. Geno and Chris never expect anything but the best and run extremely disciplined practices. It shows up in everything the team does; the coaches never get lazy and start to let things slide. They have maintained that for something like 25 years.
As many great players that they have had come to them, there are just as many lesser high school talents that they made great.
