As someone who is from that age group.
TLDR: Generations before us made it not really a good economic choice to get a house.
Mortgages aren't a good deal. You MUST have 20-30% downpayment to get even reasonable terms on it.
Unfortunately our parents and grandparents HAD to have the biggest house possible that they couldn't afford, causing the 2007 housing/economic/job crash. Tons of people defaulted and foreclosed.
Oh, and employers give us crap deals now too. Our grandparent's and parents have pensions, tons of those pensions are defaulting, and employer's dont give those out anymore.
