Goals are not high enough- he wants to sneak into Omaha-
Here is the key statement on Mason's approach:
"We don’t have to get to the top rung in the ACC to be able to win a national championship,” Mason said. “In [ACC] baseball, you’re splitting hairs between the No. 1 and No. 7, 8, 9 teams. … . So we don’t have to get to that top rung in the ACC; we’ve just got to sustain ourselves as a solid ACC program. To me, that’s being sixth place, eighth place, fourth place — any of that can make a run to [the College World Series] in Omaha.”
That is just lukewarm and not sufficiently aggressive in attitude as head coach.
Mason is the last of a string of Jim Weaver unsuccessful down-the-hall hires. I think Whit is having to absorb multiple hits financially with coaching replacements, so he strings out replacements. That must be the reason for Mason's retention. Maybe there is some positive stuff, besides facility improvements, that we as fans don't see.
We went through this scenario last year with women's basketball- 2 years left on head coach contract and program failing. How did that turn out?
