Maybe Buzz is also considering that teams need a certain number
of home games each year. If you go through every power conference team's schedule, then I believe you will see everyone has at least 1 (maybe even a few) "guarantee" home games. I suspect teams with a high prestige can get a guarantee home game against a team with a RPI of 100-200 and maybe even 50-100. However, VT's prestige may not be high enough yet. So it could be a question of a guarantee home game against Alabama State and MD-Eastern Shore vs. a home-home series with Vermont (RPI = 126 in 2015). Another possibility is that the "right price" for a guarantee home game against a team with a RPI of 100-200 may be more than VT is willing to pay at this time. If that is the case, then teams may be more likely to hold firm with the 2 options; VT pays the price or agrees to a home-home series.
