Help with a friend's PTSD

Friend is 2 months short of retiring from Army as Lt Col. Served 3 tours in Iraq/Afghanistan with many supply convoys and saw some really bad stuff but has no physical injuries. He can't unsee what he's seen and gets relief from alcohol and talks of suicide. Has been thru rehab several times to no avail. Army wants to get rid of him before he can retire because of his issues. I served in USMCR, worked with many Vietnam Vets and Gulf War vets, but am not a combat vet. Have read 25+ books on Nam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and have read of the unimaginable, but haven't seen it, smelled it, or felt it. Taking him to breakfast Saturday but am unsure how to approach things. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
