Even though I prefer Reyna to Donovan, I would have to

say Donovan is current the best US player now. Statistically he has the most caps, goals, and assists for the USMNT when he retired from the sport. However, there was something about Donovan's game that never sat quite right with me especially since he was supposed to be the "captain" of the team.

Although Reyna may not have elevated his teammates on the pitch to the levels people typically associate with great leaders, he did seem to thrive in the "general" role. It too bad he was injured during the 1994 World Cup because a lot of people wonder "what might have been" if he was healthy enough to play.
