I agree with that - because of the way it ended and largely his

personality, many VT bball fans don't want to give SG that kind of credit. Probably too far for me to say without SG, we wouldn't have that practice facility but he is a major reason it is there. I could say pretty comfortably that with Babcock at the helm we would have one by now anyway but who's to say we would have landed Babcock if that practice facility wasn't already in place? Or that we would have landed Buzz if SG didn't already show that you can build an NCAA quality team here. Remember, SG had Montrezl Harrell and Dorian Finney-Smith set to come to Blacksburg to play basketball. Imagine how different our trajectory would have been with both guys coming in.

I tried going back to find Babock's punch-list for what he wanted as a coach shortly after firing JJ but can't track it down. From memory, literally every item on there would be a check mark for SG. Blue collar attitude, scrappy team/personality, not afraid to go toe-to-toe with the ACC elite, etc...

Buzz was a slam dunk and I love him and hope he is here a long time. I also agree with the sentiment that he can eclipse SG with a little more success (and already has with the way he treats the players) but I don't think reaching for Buzz would have been possible without SG.
