I understand their desire to compete. However, when the announcement

is made then the school and the NCAA will allow the athletes to transfer to another school without losing a year of eligibility. So if they truly all want to compete, then they would put their paperwork in so they could transfer to another school so they could continue to compete. Instead some opt to remain at the school to get their degree, so that would suggest they may not have the "desire" to compete after all.

However, I was also making an assumption that Boise State gets a new recruiting class and even transfer athletes. If a recruit signs before the school makes the announcement, then I would think the school also releases the new recruits. I don't think a school can change its mind later. If down the road the school changes its position and tells a recruit that it will still honor the commitment because the program is staying, then I would be leery that I couldn't find myself in the same position again before I graduate. I would probably have similar thoughts if I was a transfer student and the program was recruiting me. Unless Boise State was the only school offering me the opportunity to compete in wrestling, then I would probably accept one of the other school's offers because chances are good the situation would be more stable.
