Because the football schools wanted a date and Miami was


the hot date with plastic inserts and whorish makeup and was willing to get into bed with them.


I agree that Miami did not have any other options but I think that the ACC felt pressure to expand before the Big East had a chance to. The "theft" of Miami served two purposes in this instance and the ACC was willing to bend over and acquiesce to the required violation. Miami was the "national" name that provided the Big East a large portion of their national perception. Not that I agree with that premise, but as long as Miami remained in the Big East, it was a viable conference no matter who else found a new dance partner. That was the kill shot that the ACC desired.
