From what I've read, TV's have come a long way in the last ten years
It used the be, the rule of thumb was:
The best = Sony
Very good = Samsung
Cheap but still pretty good = Vizio
Plasma = Panasonic
Even the worst TV's of today are pretty comparable with the best of year's past as far as picture quality.
Unless you are a real videophile, basically just shop by price, size, and features. Any TV you get is going to have a very good picture once you get the settings calibrated properly.
