We've had 2 in the 23 years we've lived here. That's 2 too many. Wife is freaked out about it. They are hard to spot due to their coloring. Immediately went outside and sprayed poison around every window and door. I will definitely check my shoes when I put them on in the mornings. I used to have a snake and spider fear, but have gotten used to the King snakes in the yard occasionally and the Tarantulas are actually pretty harmless. Only had one Gila monster here (found one in the pool skimmer) that the Fire Department came and got. (protected species here in AZ). But it's the unknown where they are of the scorpions that gets me. I'll probably have a lot of sticky tape around all the doors soon. Sigh.
