Or maybe VT offers a major that you can't get in your home state.

ROI isn't worth it otherwise IMO.

We're in Virginia and my kid got offered a huge scholarship from USCe that would have made it cheaper than going to in-state VT. Luckily my kid decided on AOE/OE which isn't offered at USC but if not, we would have had to give that a hard look.
