Long time no talk Hokie Nation...Hope everyone is doing great and enjoying the early success of VT Football and what seems like the beginning of Fall! The wrestling team is doing great working out 5 days a week, lifting, conditioning, working on technique and wrestling live....1-2 times a day. We have a solid core group of returners and a promising group of young studs. Currently we have about 40 guys training and come Oct. 10th(first day of official practice) that number will drop to 30, with most of the 10 "cut" most likely remaining on the SERTC roster.
We've had some great early season events, with our New Wrestler Picnic, Outdoor Practice, and our 1st home game tailgate, which is between Cassell and the basketball practice facility(so stop by). Robie, Frank, Ty and myself are diligently working to close the deal on some beastly seniors, as well as get some early commitments from some Juniors(as the recruiting process is starting earlier and earlier). In the coming weeks for our home FB games we will host 5 top 20 Seniors and 5 top 20 Juniors. So we look for you guys to show as much support for us and the program during those coming weeks.
On the other hand, our current guys are busting their tails and looking to write their names in the VT history books! Everyone's early season depth charts look pretty solid from what I can tell, might be some young bucks who try and shake things up, but it seems like you guys have pegged the early front runners.
Quick nuggets: Gus(33) and Sully(49) look great, as in good a shape with their weight and conditioning as they have ever been. McFadden(65) is as healthy and hungry as ever. Haught(97) is on a mission! Dunn(285) is doing all the right things and will be a great book end. Some of the other weights will be dog fight with up to 4 potential suiters, so its going to be a fun couple of months to figure out our starters.
Please continue to check in on our SERTC website, as we have a great "new blood" drive beginning and be sure to jump on Coach Robie's email list! If you aren't on it, please email me at
[email protected] and I will be sure to pass it along. Also if you need anything, don't hesitate to reach out, and don't be a stranger on gamely as we saw many of you stop by our tailgate...ODU will be great (2pm game) but w/ Clemson most likely being a night game and a very IMPORTANT weekend for the future, we'd love for you guys to make yourselves seen! Thanks guys and talk soon! -Frayer Go Hokies!
