Just buying a bunch of trucks and contracting drivers doesn't make you a delivery company, at least a good one. Fed Ex and UPS and to some extent USPS have spent years honing and improving their services to get where they are.

I have some interaction with my companies trucking and logistics operations and I'm amazed at how complex that function is. I suspect Amazon will get worse before it gets better.
