First question: what do you want to do with it?

Target shooting? Would recommend a .22 pistol. Probably a Gen 4 Ruger, since they are finally easy to break down & clean...finally! There are other similar pistols that would also be excellent choices.

Concealed carry? I like 9mm because it’s inexpensive to shoot, and it’s large enough to “do the job.” I think the FBI has traded in their .40s for 9s. I’m a big Walther fan, but I also like Sigs & HKs. You need to determine what type of safety you prefer on your pistol.

If you like the way Glocks operate (SA only,no manual safety), then look at the Walther PPQ & HK VP9. Probably the best two choices in their (G19) price range.

If you prefer a SA/DA pistol with a “Decocker”, then you have three choices: (most) Sigs, Walther P99, and (some) CZs.

If you want a manual safety, there are plenty of options.

Once you pick your caliber, use, & safety, next choice is size. Most major manufacturers make full size and compact versions of the same pistol.

Once you narrow down your choices, you need to go shoot them. You might like the triggers on Walthers, hate the triggers on S&Ws.

Once you have narrowed your choices, get back to us. Can provide specific suggestions.
