Google Maps has a "My Maps" feature that lets you do just that

Here is my sample "tailgate trail" for this coming Saturday. I wish this was actually my plan.
- Can show the route
- Can add icons for specific locations (to do numbered/lettered use a custom icon with this URL: http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?chst=d_map_pin_letter&chld=XX|FF0000|000000, can change the colors with that too)
- Can probably do other stuff.
