Actually, when he was hired, people were looking forward to change.


(Or at least they were in their public statements.)

Rikkakis was in over his head when it came to the implementation details. He may have had the support of the president (some speculate that he was doing exactly what the president wanted him to do), but he failed in getting faculty buy-in.

My hope is that the president has the good sense to hire someone with more departmental faculty experience than either he or Rikkakis have. (Neither have much classroom teaching experience.) Unless he does, I suspect that we'll be facing the same problems over again.
