I noticed you seem to omit the statement about online entities
"The value of the latter could crash with little warning." Yes, Facebook may trade on NASDAQ, but I believe the author was referring to the collapse of the dot-com bubble between 2000-2002. I mean look how many online entities went from having value to no value overnight. Facebook may not have been the best example given it is probably more stable than most online entities, but the author probably used it because it is the most recognizable name.
