Patterson's times are similar (but slightly better) than the high school times of Michael Davenport, Tech's freshman phenom in 2017. In case you didn't follow it, Davenport took 2nd in the 100 and 5th in the 200 at the ACC Outdoor T&F Championships. Patterson times in the 100/200/400 were 10.42/21.20/46.98 as a high school junior versus Davenport times of 10.53/21.14/48.67 as a high school senior (for reference, Cole Beck had a 10.41 100 meter as a HS junior). Looking at it another way, Patterson's best times would have placed him 5th in the 100, 9th in 200 and 7th in the 400 at the ACC Championships. In addition, Patterson is also a long jumper whose best distance would have put him 5th at the ACC Championships.
He is the type of athlete you want in T&F since he can compete in multiple events including the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Another good get for the already strong Men's T&F program.
