Shows desperation.

Anything to prop up the company in the eyes of investors because Tesla can't meet deadlines and can't make a profit.

Is it interesting, you bet. Who wouldn't like that bauble?

Will these reveals save the company? Time will tell, but right now they haven't even released the Model 3 to the public. Everyone that has one is locked down under an NDA-basically a beta-tester that paid to be one.

I root for the success of Tesla, but damn, it's doing everything it can to distract from its crappy current situation.

The big boys are entering the arena, finally and seriously (VW and GM). Tesla may just run out of time because it can't get its products to market enough to fund other products and the necessary expansion to build new factories and service these vehicles. It is surviving only on its inflated stock price. It is very cash poor right now.
