Weird Windows file downloading problem


I am downloading large (1.2-1.5 GB) zip files from a remote web server. The guy sent me an email with a direct link to each zip file.

Windows begins the download but then stops the download as completed before the entire file is transferred. For instance, a 1.2 GB file stopped at 815k, and then 862k when I tried it again. So of course the zip files won't open.

What could be happening here?
