Don't think I've ever seen a crowd turn on a speaker like I did last night

My daughter in law graduated from nursing school and they had six graduates give speeches. They were all fairly short and related interesting stories. Then the keynote speaker started in, and he kept our attention for about 15 minutes, even though it was all about him and his business. About 20 minutes in the crowd noise got noticeably louder - people were obviously tuning him out and starting to talk to each other instead. Then every time he reached a point where it sounded like he might be wrapping things up, then launched into another topic, there was a groan from the crowd. At one point a bunch of people started applauding, trying to tell him nicely he needed to stop. But he just plowed ahead, and the next time a bunch of people started shouting at him - I couldn't make out specific words, but the gist was "shut up and get off the stage!" Except one guy who was louder than everyone else and told the rest of us to show this guy some respect. Fortunately at that point the MC got up and quietly suggested to the speaker that he wrap things up, so he moved three or four pages from one side of the lectern to the other to get to his last page (I can only imagine how much longer it would have taken him to get through those). Even then he kept going for several more minutes. Wild applause when he finally sat down. Don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that.
