Sometimes parenting really knows how to kick a man in the crotch.
While at my parents' house for dinner tonight, my 5 year old started complaining of a stomach ache. I could tell she was being truthful, but for some reason, my wife decided to coerce her to eat her meal. That was a bad idea. Within 30 minutes, she was throwing up. We got her cleaned up and managed to get home without any incidents in the car, but she got sick again as soon as we walked in the front door.
We were supposed to be going out of town for my company's Christmas party tomorrow evening, and the little one was going to spend the night at the grandparents' house and have a sleepover with her cousins who are visiting from out of town. She has been so excited about that for over a week, but now that's not going to happen. For some incomprehensible reason, my wife decided to break that news to our daughter as she was throwing up after we got home tonight. I just about had a stroke when I heard her say that. Needless to say, that revelation did not improve our situation for this evening and would have been best dealt with tomorrow.
So....not a good night. I don't care about missing my company party tomorrow, but I am bummed for my daughter. She was super excited about getting together with family tomorrow. So on top of feeling like crap, she's going to be devastated about missing out on her sleepover.
Should be a fun weekend! And, we'll probably all be throwing up by the time it's all over.
