A few years ago I had to buy a new car for the wife in December...

but it wasn't a NEW car. Her old car had reached end of life (we drive cars until the wheels fall off). Bought a few-year-old Rav4. She drove that until it got totaled (technical total) about a year ago, which upgraded her to a three year newer car and half the mileage.

Equation wasn't "commercial convinces us to buy" but circumstances drove us to do it. Would have been the same any time of year. We DID put a big red bow on it for the holidays though.
