Last year I had 2 new iphones charged to my Verizon account and the dude
had them mailed to my address (the charges for the phones and related services were $1200 each). This guy came by one morning wanting to know if I had received a FedEx package by mistake (this was before I was aware of the charge to Verizon or checking my mail). He was trying to intercept the package. I found out what happened a little later in the day after discovering a LifeLock alert while checking my email. Verizon cleaned it all up quickly after I returned the phones. I had Equifax lock/freeze my credit access for 6 months (auto renewal till I request it unlocked), they then also contacted TransUnion and Experian.
Later, I was off-handedly talking to someone who was aware of this type of scam. Apparently, these phones can be sold in Europe, Eastern Europe for $7000+ over there.
