Any personnel activity is considered HIGHLY confidential in my organization

because of the IP that walks out the door or gets maliciously destroyed, forwarded or other. When you notify someone of a company's intentions, it throws everything into disarray.

Furthermore, when it comes to RIFs I can't tell you how many times I've seen GOOD friends' names on the spreadsheet only to see them come off as D-Day grew closer.

We had an instance where an employee got a heads up that his name was on the list to be canned and he marched into the CFOs office and proceeded to read him the riot act. Turns out it was a different guy by the same name. Both were fired as was the guy who spilled the beans erroneously.
