Sour grapes....

That's all I take from this post and pretty much all of your posts, which all in one way or another have to do with UVA bball. It's petty and makes you look obsessed. Not a good look...

Now I'll take the bait and respond, but I post here quite a bit and have had great conversation with a lot of you kind folks. I'm not here to troll, just explain why I believe you are wildly off base.

First of all, UVA and Tech really don't compete for recruits. What Buzz wants and what TB want in their systems are completely different. Tech has had success with quick guards and slashing wings who run in transition. That has worked, arguably, to this point in time. What Buzz has really struggled with, however, and what will continue to lower your team's ceiling, is the ability to recruit a top end big man. This year's class and next year's class don't address these issues. That's at present your team's biggest issue and it looks to remain an issue going forward, even with Sy coming back in the fold.

Now next year could be better for you guys since you only lose Bibbs and Wilson, and return Sy and Outlaw presumably, but I still don't see a team good enough to catapult you into the national conversation. An NCAA bid? Most likely, but beyond that year....what happens next? You're pointing to UVA's recruiting failures (I'll get to that in a minute), but also failing to acknowledge that your own recruiting has not been adequate enough to continue elevating the team forward. There is some talent there for sure, but nothing deep enough to build out a roster capable of getting you out of the "purgatory" EDGEMAN mentions. Tell me if I'm wrong, I'm certainly willing to see the other side, and I'll acknowledge that the UVA team to finally get us over the hump played way over expectations. That said, to get to a higher level -- consistent NCAA appearances and high seeds -- you need a LOT to go right.

Now you can pick apart UVA's resume all you want. Say we don't play well in March, blah blah blah. But the fact is we're still loaded with talent. 2016 was our best recruiting class ever, and Tony has staggered our team with redshirts, developed talent, and found diamonds in the rough to give us scrappy minutes and play within his system. He finds his guys. Guys that are Ok with our style of play and want to compete for ACC championships and postseason success.

Everyone keeps expecting UVA to fall off. They point to poor recruiting classes; they point to players leaving. First it was Harris and Mitchell, then Anderson, then Brogdon and Gill, then Perrantes and Nichols and so on. They look at recruiting classes that fail to register in the top half of even the ACC and expect that our system is finally catching up to us. I get it. Truth be told, I'd do the same thing if I was a Tech fan. Hell, I probably do it as a hater of Tech football. You always look to undermine your rival's perceived successes and talk yourself into thinking they aren't as good as people keep saying. A defense mechanism if you will.

The bottom line is, UVA isn't going anywhere. Our 2016 class was one of the best in the country and look at what they've been doing. 3 of our top 4 scorers in ACC play are either freshmen or sophomores. We had a drop off in recruiting these past two years because there was no PT to be sold. That above fact, coupled with our continued success, should only continue to bring solid enough recruits to continue what we've been doing. Players that aren't of the one-and-done ilk, but are are top-150 who play with a chip on their shoulder and round out their game under one of the best player developers in the country. Just look at how Anderson, Brogdon, Harris, and Mike Scott are doing in the pros.

Apologies for that tangent on UVa basketball. I understand the narrative will always be we don't win in March, but I don't see it having anything to do with our style of play. We lost to an underseeded Michigan State team the first year in an epic Sweet 16 game, and again to that same team the following year. It wasn't the best draw, but it is what it is. We hold onto our 2nd half lead and Syracuse doesn't go unconscious from 3 and this narrative evaporates. It's only going to take one run, and if we continue to get high seeds, then we will breakthrough soon enough.

So the takeaway is that tearing down UVA to make you feel better isn't a necessary exercise. I've tried it with Tech football, but it doesn't help. Comparing Buzz to Tony is a fool's errand. They are completely different coaches, on completely different paths. If you expect Buzz to do what Tony has done with our program, then you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Look to steady improvements, recruiting wins, and get excited about the process. Buzz is blazing his own path, with his own style, and whether or not he can have the type of sustained success your fans desperately want is still to be determined.

PS- We whooped you guys in Cassell. So saying we have no good wins completely undermines the notion that Tech is on the rise. All season everyone kept saying we were "scared" of what Buzz is building and then we ran you out of your own stadium. Any ACC road win by 20 or more points is a great win. Don't sell your team so short...
