Beer scene in Asheville is superior IMHO, and definitely more walkable.

Asheville has a population of 89,000, with 26 breweries in the city and 60 in the area (most breweries per capita in the US, even more than Portland). Most of the breweries downtown are within walking distance of each other. Catawba and Green Man were two of my favorites.
