Anybody here build models?

I never really did as a kid....just the snap together where the parts were already colored and such. Snap together, add decals, and done. My son who is developing a classic car/muscle car obsession got a really detailed Shelby Cobra "real" model for Christmas. Every piece is white. So I guess were supposed to paint everything before assembly? How do you hold the small parts for painting? Any other advice? Aw, hell...anyone want to come over and build this thing with my kid?
