But, I’ve had pretty good training. I was on a line of a dozen or so ARs when my battery ran out on my muffs, it was disorienting to hear that volume of fire unprotected. I’d estimate 2-3 seconds before I got it together. I’d like to think with the training I’ve had, I’d respond in appropriate manner. Unfortunately, way too many people think that training is standing still 10-20 yds from a paper cutout. I don’t know what his training was, but I understand that most departments cannnot afford or devote the time necessary for appropriate level preparedness training. Minutes of inaction does not sound good. But, most don’t know how they would respond unless they are in an actual gun battle, without muffs, glasses, etc. from what I read, I wish he had responded differently. I feel for him. But, to me, the answer is more investment and support of our officers.
