Didn't Yahoo or Excite reject buying Google for $1M?

History is chock full of examples like this.

Xerox had invented the mouse as a user interface, and object-based programming, but threw it all away because they were "a copier company." So Steve Jobs stole all those ideas and launched the MacIntosh project.

IBM eagerly agreed to Bill Gates' demand to retain ownership of the software because "all the money is in hardware."

Lots of moments in time where one person or organization grossly undervalued the future of an idea or business venture. But also lots of moments in time where they have been grossly overvalued too.

Unfortunately, omniscience isn't easy.
