Washington D.C. help: what was the really famous 1970's supper club???

Really really hard to get into.
Very stuffy. Stodgy. Stiff. Starch.

Like never renovated. Old.
Very expensive. Big awning out front.
Coach George Allen's hangout with lottsa old-school
smoking room Congressmen/Senators and D.C. old-money; et al.

Had the matchbooks that were so very hard to come by that
everyone wanted and never used.

Any ides???

TIA,
b.street
