My local river bar hosted a Micro Championship Wrestling event yesterday. It was a packed event that was free to attend. I heard the first match while I was sitting on my dock (I'm only a few hundred yards down) and I couldn't help myself, I had to see it in person.

When I got there, it was more people than I'd ever seen there before... had to be 300+. The matches were already going and the crowd was going bananas. Their tagline is "half the size, twice the violence" and they seemed to take it seriously. The athletes were very talented and played their evil/hero storyline roles really well. They were extremely talented and put on a helluva show.

So here's where I'm torn: All the billing and press for the event is "micro" but once you get there, it switches to "midget" real quick. Never heard Micro again. Heard midget at least a few dozen times. There are a lot of bad puns and jokes made at the performer's expense as well. It feels very exploitive and I ended up feeling bad for the performers. After the event was over, they were responsible for tearing down the ring, then got ushered to a van where presumably they'll be on their way to the next town.

I'm no social justice warrior, in fact MOST of what comes out of my mouth isn't fit for society... am I starting to grow a conscious?
