ACCT Results and At-Large Potential .....

There weren't too many upsets at the tournament but there were a few that affected allocations. A summary is provided as follows:

125: The ACC had 2 allocations and the two that earned them (UVa's Louie Hayes and NCSU's Sean Fausz finished 1st and 2nd) got the two bids to the NCAAT. Of those not earning a bid after the tournaments, 3 are ranked higher than Kyle Norstrem's #31 ranking. The NCAA will use a different criteria to select the at-larges and although Norstrem will satisfy the criteria for an at-large selection, his performance in the ACCT surely won't help his chances. Not looking for an at-large here for Norstrem and not likely for any other ACC wrestler.

133: Five allocations were earned by the ACC and the ACCT results ended up with the same five wrestlers (Forys, Mueller, Gus, Wilson, and Sherman) earning the bids to the NCAAT. Duke's Josh Finesilver was seeded 6th and finished 6th. He did have a decent RPI of 23 and coaches ranking of 32 but going 0-3 in the tournament won't help and there are 6 wrestlers higher in the coaches poll that did not get a bid based on their tournament results. His chances are fair at best.

141: ACC had 3 allocations and they were filled by Moore, Jack, and Zanetta. UNC's AC Headlee probably had earned one of the ACC allocations but he got zapped in his two losses in the ACCT (majored by Brent Moore and tech falled by Duke's Reitz). His RPI and coaches ranking of 19 each were very good and he may earn a bid but his ACCT performance was very poor and may hurt him. Only 2 wrestlers were ranked above him that did not earn a bid. His chances are probably better than 50/50.

149: ACC had 4 allocations and they were filled by Heilmann, Blees, Krivus, and Donohue. The other 2 ACC wrestlers (Pitt's Lee and Duke's Leynaud) won't earn an at-large based on their resume.

157: ACC had 3 allocations and they were filled by Hidlay, Finesilver, and Monday. Pitt's Rahmani will likely earn an at-large due to his decent rankings (RPI of 19 and Coaches ranking of 24) and the fact that only 1 wrestler ranked above him did not get a bid. BC is most likely out of luck here. His 0-2 record in ACCT and the fact that 6 wrestlers are ranked ahead of him who did not get a bid most likely greatly limit any chances he has of getting an at-large.

165: David McFadden and Zach Finesilver (#6 seed) earned the two ACC bids. ACC has a shot at 2 at-larges at this weight class. UVa's Atkinson finished 3rd and NCSU's Hamann finished 4th. Both have decent numbers (ranked in the 20s in the coaches poll) and they have few wrestlers ranked above them who did not get a bid. Their chances are probably better than 50/50.

174: ACC had 4 allocations and they were filled with Ramos, Bollen, Bullard, and Finesilver. UVa's Schany has an outside chance. His numbers (RPI of 28 and ranking of 30) give him a shot and he only has 3 wrestlers ranked above him to fill one of the five at-large spots.

184: The ACC's 3 allocations were filled by Renda, ZZ, and Ness. Pitt's Harvey is the ACC wrestlers with any shot at an at-large with his ranking numbers in the low 30s but he does have 7 wrestlers ranked above him who did not receive a bid. His chances are fairly low.

197: The ACC's 3 allocations were filled by Haught, Macchiavello, and Chaid. Don't see an at-large opportunity for any of the other ACC wrestlers as 6 ranked wrestlers did not receive a bid and no other ACC wrestlers are ranked.\

285: ACC's five allocations filled by Kasper, Daniel, Boykin, Dunn, and Love (yes, UVA's Tyler Love with his 35% winning percentage). Pitt's Ryan Solomon's injury defaults (concussion) received in the Kasper match propelled Love into the 3rd/4th place match. Solomon will get an at-large due to his #17 coaches ranking (no wrestlers ranked above him did not get a bid). All 6 ACC wrestlers at heavyweight will be in the NCAAT.
